My First Month with RVI!

Starting a new journey always comes with a mix of excitement and fear. After spending the last two years practically attached at the hip with my polytechnic friends, suddenly finding myself alone in a new space has been a big shift. We've been so close for so long that stepping into a new chapter of my polytechnic journey without them feels a little daunting. But, as with all new beginnings, it’s about taking a deep breath and diving in.

I won’t lie – I was pretty scared at first. This is my first real marketing experience outside of the classroom. While I’ve worked on client projects before, they were always within the safety net of lecturers guiding us and making sure we didn’t stray too far off track. This time, I’m in the driver’s seat. It’s a little nerve-wracking, especially since I’m still figuring out what I’m doing!

But that fear also comes with a flicker of excitement. Maybe this is something I could be good at! And even if I’m not, at least I can say I tried. I’ve struggled with self-confidence for a long time, especially after past failures – it’s been an uphill battle for me. But I’ve realised that growth comes from pushing through that discomfort, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to do.

My first month here has been all about learning, adjusting, and overcoming my own self-doubt. The team at River Valley Irregulars has been incredibly welcoming. My colleagues are patient, willing to help, and they’ve created a positive environment for me to grow in. It’s a far cry from my last internship, where I was doing admin work and handling customers (with not much support except from my perpetually exhausted mentor) – this is a whole new world.

There are days when I get in my own head, wondering if I’m cut out for this, but I’m taking it one step at a time. It’s not an easy journey, but I’ve come to realise that the right environment can make all the difference. With a supportive team around me and the determination to learn and improve, I have faith that I’ll come out of these next five months more experienced, more skilled, and more confident in what I can do.
