My First Experience at a Toastmasters Workshop

After my Bali trip (check out my post for my thoughts on that!), I wanted to attend some networking events in December 2023.

That's when I stumbled upon a Toastmasters workshop online. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and connect with people from different backgrounds.

The first person I met was a foreigner planning to take over his family business back home. He saw the workshop as a great way to improve his public speaking skills, which are crucial for business and entrepreneurship.

Next, I met a local financial advisor. He was looking for a platform to connect with more people and enhance his communication with clients. For him, improving his speaking skills is key to career advancement.

Finally, I spoke with a woman in her 60s. She's been part of the Toastmasters community for years and joined to meet new people. Despite having difficulty walking long distances, she attends the workshops regularly. She shared how the community has helped her speak confidently in English, even though Mandarin is her first language. Her determination and gratitude were truly inspiring.

Attending the Toastmasters workshop was a fresh and new experience. I met diverse individuals with unique stories and goals, all seeking to improve their communication skills. It’s amazing how a supportive community can help people grow in different ways.
