Participating in the Food and Agriculture Organization committee in the 1st Reedley International School's Model United Nations was a valuable and eye-opening experience for me as a first-time delegate. Representing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam allowed me to deeply understand the real challenges of transitioning from chemical-intensive agriculture to agroecological practices, especially the difficulties faced by smallholder farmers in climate-vulnerable regions like the Mekong Delta. The moderated caucuses on farmer training and traditional techniques, along with the collaborative drafting of the working paper, helped me learn how to negotiate, propose practical solutions, and build consensus with other delegates.
Overall, this MUN greatly improved my public speaking, research, and diplomatic skills. I particularly appreciated how the study guide connected global issues with realistic, actionable ideas. I look forward to applying what I learned in future conferences and continuing to advocate for sustainable agriculture and food security.
