Power, Participation, and Purpose: Youth at the Political Table

“You are never too young to lead, and never too young to spark change.” It was a pleasure to have completed the Movers Workshop on Youth Political Participation...

“You are never too young to lead, and never too young to spark change.”

It was a pleasure to have completed the Movers Workshop on Youth Political Participation, a dynamic initiative led by the UNDP Movers Programme with the support of International IDEA and UNICEF South Asia.

This wasn’t just another virtual workshop, it was a call to action.

A deep dive into why youth voices matter in governance, how to navigate barriers to political inclusion, and most importantly, how to lead from the frontlines, whether in parliaments, through activism, or digital platforms.

What hit hardest?
Despite making up over 1.1 billion in Asia-Pacific, youth represent less than 2% of parliamentarians. And no, passion isn’t the problem. Perception, prejudice, and systemic blocks are.
Yet, we’re reclaiming the space, step by step, session by session, voice by voice.

From understanding democracy like never before, to mapping avenues of influence, from “outside the room” to “in the room”. Connecting with passionate changemakers across regions, this experience reaffirms that political participation isn’t just about elections. It’s about educating, organizing, showing up, and shaking systems.

Grateful to the Movers team for creating this empowering space. I look forward to sharing this knowledge and extending the dialogue, especially with the young minds I mentor and, in time, by organizing such workshops in institutions that value empowered youth participation. If this resonates, feel free to connect.

We are the present, not just the future. Let’s move. Let’s lead. Let’s rewrite the narrative.
