What's the difference between a project's purpose and aim?

We are planning some very exciting events 🀩 ....that require proposals πŸ˜”

Jk, I lied with the πŸ˜” because I actually LOVE writing proposals muahahahah. (Throwback to primary school where everyone hated doing Reflections but I actually loved it LMAO same vibes)

I mean, what could be more beautiful and fun and exciting than putting all your thoughts nice and structured down onto a piece of paper? The event itself? Surely not!!

Jokes jokes, of course the event itself is also fun and exciting. But I really do love the proposal-writing part too. What can I say, I'm a nerd... but you already knew this πŸ€“

Anyway, what's the first thing you do when organising a big event?

*patiently waits for you to answer*

WRONG!!!

Joking again... there's no right and wrong way to do things... or is there? πŸ€”

Ok seriously there is no right or wrong way to do things BUT how I usually like to do it is start with being very clear on the event's purpose - the why of what we are doing.

It's the deeper meaning behind the project, the foundation from which we build whatever it is we want to build.

If everyone can get on the same page about why we are doing what we are doing, we're less likely to get distracted or waste efforts on things that don't actually further our cause. It serves as a form of motivation, we can remind each other of what's really important, and aim towards the same thing.

And the aim - it's what we want to achieve.

This can include targets with quantities (e.g. 100 new customers)...

Or maybe even qualities (e.g. 100 happy new customers)...

And a little bit more detail (e.g. 100 happy new customers who come back every week because the product truly benefits them!)...

Ok as a bonus: objectives can describe how these aims are to be achieved :D

Ok anyway these are just words, write your proposals however you want to, I'm not ur school teacher I'm just a rando on the internet Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―
