Empowering Refugee Youth Through Political Education – By Ata Ullah

As part of my capstone project under the CAYA Advocacy Fellowship, I have started conducting workshops for Rohingya refugee youth living in the camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

These young people are full of potential, but most of them do not have access to formal education. Many have never even heard about their basic rights, democracy, or political participation. That is why I decided to take this step — to reach out to them, support them, and help them understand the power of their voice.

Through these workshops, I guide the youth to:

Learn about democracy and political systems

Share their own experiences and opinions

Build the courage to speak up about issues they face

Explore peaceful and positive ways to take part in community-level discussions

Even though we live in a restricted environment, our minds are free, and our dreams are big. I believe that real change begins with awareness — and when we educate young minds, we light the path to a better future.

This is not just a project. It is a mission to give hope, knowledge, and strength to my fellow youth — to believe that even as refugees, we have the right to learn, to think, and to lead.
