I served under the 40th Battalion in Armour, I learned values such as resilience and discipline as well as teamwork. I gained skills that help to teach me how to conduct myself to succeed in goals.

I joined the service at the end of 2022. Enlisting during the aftermath of Circuit Breaker of Covid-19, presented interesting challenges such as interacting with unique personalities. I had also enlisted after an awkward moment with my mother as we had argued a lot prior to Covid. Enlisting then was scary for me as I was not in the right headspace during then.

During my Basic Military Training that lasted the first 2 months, I had gotten Covid during my first 2 weeks and had missed on key bonding moments. When I had joined back after my Medical Leave had ended, I had an obstacle in the form of integrating myself into a tight-knit group as an outsider.

As I transitioned into Unit, it was much easier to make friends as I utilised the same techniques I used during my BMT days.

As a whole, this experience, despite being a tough 2 years in general as any National Service experience goes, I learned valuable skills on how to work with and make relations with people on top of the resilience and discipline that comes with National Service.
