In July 2025, I worked as a Project Assistant for a small MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) company, where I supported the planning and execution of an annual international event held in Vietnam and Thailand. My role was multifaceted, covering sales outreach, marketing support, and administrative coordination. This experience allowed me to gain a well-rounded understanding of how different functions come together to deliver a successful event.

On the sales side, I assisted in client outreach and communication, which strengthened my confidence in professional correspondence and stakeholder engagement. While I found that direct sales was not my strongest area, it helped me develop resilience, adaptability, and a better understanding of client expectations and conversion strategies.

I found marketing to be a more engaging aspect of the role. Despite not having a strong background in design, I contributed to the development of promotional materials and campaign ideas. This pushed me to think creatively within my limitations and focus on messaging, audience targeting, and content effectiveness rather than just visuals. Through this, I gained a deeper appreciation of marketing strategy, including how to position an event, highlight its value proposition, and appeal to different target segments.

In addition, I handled various administrative responsibilities such as coordinating event details, managing documents, and supporting internal communication. This enhanced my organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks under time constraints—key competencies in the events industry.

Overall, this experience provided me with valuable exposure to the MICE industry and helped me better understand my strengths and interests. While sales was less aligned with my skillset, I discovered a genuine interest in marketing and event promotion. This role reinforced my ability to adapt, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to a team, and it has motivated me to further develop my skills in marketing within the events and MICE sector.
