Meeting with River Valley Irregular Philippines today (August 27, 2026) at NU Dasmariñas gave me a different perspective on what community work and partnership can truly mean. As part of the NU Dasmariñas ComEx Brigade officers, I had the opportunity to learn more about RVI Philippines. We also had a meaningful conversation with Sir Jose, which made the meeting feel more personal and engaging.
What stood out to me the most was RVI Philippines’ goal of unleashing people’s potential by giving them opportunities to participate, grow, and become part of a community. For me, this is important because community development should not always be about simply giving people what they need. Sometimes, what people need most is an opportunity and become more independent. I believe that in this way we can create a more lasting impact than simply providing temporary assistance.
Overall, my meeting with RVI Philippines was more than just an introduction to a potential partner. It allowed me to reflect on what it really means to serve a community. I learned that service is not always about doing things for people but it's also about creating opportunities that allow people to do things for themselves.
