AI Manga Challenge

SP's AI Manga Challenge was more of a Story-concept-pitch-with-supporting-ai-graphics Challenge. Removed were testing your skills in storytelling, planning of panelling or deftness of dialogue, leaving behind just how unique a proposal you could put forth.

What this event showed me was AI's usefulness in making quick images to build from in order to express your idea. However, a stark weakness of AI that pained our team was its inability to creatively think through novel, complex scenarios.

For instance, the AI we used, Adobe Firefly, could display a normal man with normal hands just fine. But asking it to show a normal man with normal hands and a fish face was nigh on impossible. Now imagine the ordeal we experienced trying to get an image of the fish-man's son riding on his shoulders.

That is to say, the incorporation of AI still required our human hands to draw over its mistakes.

Overall, ideating wacky concepts with my friends was the definite highlight. Using AI eliminated the fulfilment that comes from drawing, leaving that process menial and tedious in comparison.
