In the past 3-4 years in my secondary school, I have been nominated as a Student Leader (SL) which cares and empathises peers around me, enabling me to better connect with them and facilitate appropriate dialogues with each other.

As a Student Councillor (SC), I was able to better engage with my peers as they shared their sorrows whilst receiving adequate feedbacks from me and those who are constantly lending him or her a listening ear. This empowered me to feel much more accomplished with my role as a leader, providing me surges of energy to take care of the mental well-being of my peers and juniors. Moreover, I learnt how to think critically as not all solutions are one-size-fit-all. Hence, it is crucial for me to be better aware of what comes out from my mouth, and thus be sufficiently connected with the individual at hand.

Moreover, my Student Leader journey has also involved immense instances of planning and initiating school-based events such as Teacher’s Day. Although the planning and initiation of these events were rigorous and labour-intensive, elements of joy and pride could be imbued from these. Forging stronger bonds with those I am working with and being able to have a part of responsibility in hosting a school-based events definitely brings me enormous joy and delight.

In conclusion, the 3-4 years of being a Student Leader taught me grit, endurance and most importantly, resilience. Yes, it was difficult and daunting from the start. However, with just a little perseverance and support from others, I was able to push through and showcase the best version of myself.
