Day 6 – Bali OEIP

Today was another insightful and thought-provoking day as we had the privilege of hearing from two inspiring speakers. The first was the owner of MPH, an NGO dedicated to waste management and environmental sustainability, and the second was the founder of Aryo Laundry, a business created with the goal of providing job opportunities for friends and relatives. Both of these entrepreneurs shared their unique perspectives on business, social impact, and the challenges of creating something meaningful in their respective industries.

The founder of MPH spoke about the importance of proper waste management and sustainability, emphasizing how small changes in waste separation and recycling can make a huge impact on the environment. His organization is committed to educating communities and businesses about responsible waste disposal, reducing plastic waste, and finding innovative ways to repurpose materials. Hearing about the struggles they face, from changing mindsets to implementing sustainable practices on a larger scale, made me realize that solving environmental issues requires not just policies but also community-driven efforts. His passion for making Bali cleaner and more sustainable was truly inspiring, reinforcing the importance of taking action, no matter how small, in making a difference.

Next, we heard from the founder of Aryo Laundry, whose story stood out because his business was not just about making money, but about providing opportunities for those around him. He started the company as a way to help his friends and relatives secure stable jobs, recognizing that many people struggle to find employment due to various social and economic challenges. His approach to business was deeply rooted in compassion and community support, showing that entrepreneurship is not just about personal success, but also about lifting others up. His story made me reflect on the responsibilities of a business owner, and how businesses can be vehicles for positive social change when built with the right intentions.

After these engaging talks, our group began working on our group project, which turned out to be a valuable learning experience in teamwork, communication, and collaboration. We had to brainstorm, delegate tasks, and find ways to effectively work together, which was not always easy, as everyone had different ideas and approaches. However, through active listening, compromise, and problem-solving, we were able to navigate challenges and align towards a common goal. This experience taught me a lot about the importance of understanding team dynamics, respecting different perspectives, and playing my role as a team member effectively.

One of the biggest takeaways from today was realizing that success is not just about individual achievements, but also about how we contribute to our communities—whether through sustainability efforts, creating job opportunities, or simply learning how to work well with others. The insights from the speakers and the teamwork experience reminded me that business and leadership go beyond profit—they are about making a lasting, meaningful impact on others.

Overall, today was a day filled with valuable lessons on social entrepreneurship, teamwork, and responsibility, leaving me with a deeper appreciation for the power of business as a tool for both financial and social growth.
