My experience attending the Opening of the Fifteenth Parliament

I recall the feeling of utter elation when I was notified that I would be representing my school in attending the Opening of the Fifteenth Parliament earlier this year. The Parliament had then seemed a distant dream.

I was extremely honoured and grateful to have been offered the opportunity to represent Anderson Serangoon Junior College (ASRJC) in attending this monumental national event. Given the school's relatively young history, having only been formally created in 2018 with the formation of 2 junior colleges, I was immensely grateful to have been able to represent my school and carry the school name with pride and honour.

During the event, I was granted the wonderful opportunity to interact with students from all walks of life, from various educational institutions in Singapore. I was able to engage in discourse about various topics with them, including pressing social, political and economical issues, and gain newfound insights and perspectives into various complex real-world problems. Notably, I remember engaging with various political leaders firsthand, asking them questions regarding topics in was curious to learn more about, and learning more about domestic and international politics and current world affairs; especially given their expertise, and insightful knowledge and understanding of nuanced issues, I felt extremely appreciative of being able to be in the same room as people who have inspired, and role model for many people. In turn, this motivates me to continue empowering others around me in my own capacity, and continue engaging those around me while seeking out new connections to gain even more insights into diverse perspectives.

Furthermore, going forward, this event will serve as motivation for me to continue learning more about public policy, and how we can best develop policies and programmes that can help people as best as possible.
