Chinese Orchestra SYF 2023

My principal told us that stepping into YIJC would be the perfect opportunity to try new things. And so I did!

I have always loved music, and I found instruments used in Chinese Orchestra (CO) interesting and unique. I was immediately drawn to the Erhu.

Learning how to play an instrument without much music background was definitely a struggle. Playing music notes accurately and memorising the score was not easy. But with the help of my instructor and my peers, I managed to keep up with the orchestra and got to participate in SYF 2023.

From this experience, I have met such an amazing group of people (a tiny orchestra of 23!) My peers were patient with me when I messed up, and we were always there to cheer each other up when practice sessions got stressful.
Im glad I joined a different CCA in JC. I had always stayed within my comfort zone in secondary school and I felt like I needed to experience different things.
In order to keep up, I had to be more outgoing and ask for help when needed. I realised that struggling on your own would not benefit anyone but also drag the orchestra down.
The phrase “Practice Makes Perfect” holds true. I remember the late nights our orchesta stayed back to perfect our piece. Though tough, we never backed down!
