It was a privilege to be part of the introductory session of the CAYA Advocacy Fellowship, hosted by the River Valley Irregulars in partnership with Commonwealth Asia. This wasn't just a session—it was a spark that lit the fire of purpose even brighter.
We began by exploring the foundational principles of advocacy—not just as a concept, but as a lived, breathing act of change. The session taught me that advocacy is more than raising our voices; it’s about knowing when, where, and how to speak up effectively, and creating impactful action plans that move beyond words.
What stood out most was the idea that change doesn't wait for permission—it needs preparation. We discussed how to build portfolios and pathways that connect our personal stories with larger goals, ensuring that passion is always paired with strategy. I realized that every step we take as youth advocates must be grounded in research, empathy, and resilience.
From developing action-oriented solutions to identifying the right channels for engagement, this session was packed with insights that reminded me why I chose this journey: to amplify the voices that often go unheard, and to build bridges where others see walls.
Having lived through the complexity of conflict zones, faith intersections, and cross-cultural movements, I understand deeply the weight of responsibility on youth shoulders. But I also know that we are not just the leaders of tomorrow—we are the disruptors of today.
Grateful to the facilitators and the brilliant young minds I had the chance to learn from. The journey has just begun, and I’m excited for what's to come.
