This school project is to create an immersive environment in Unreal Engine. The first thing I learnt is that at first, it may look very complicated as it is not very beginner friendly. However, it is highly rewarding once you get the hang of it. Unreal engine is built as a professional, AAA grade tool designed for large development studios, which explains its steep learning curve. Another important learning point was the value of patience and systematic troubleshooting. I realized that elements like object collisions and rendering lags require careful trial and error, which taught me to better navigate the settings when things didn't work perfectly the first time. Firstly, I find my inspiration picture on what environment I wanted to create. I chose to make a mini-Japanese shrine. Secondly, I started to create my assets like the torii gates and the shrine buildings before I started sculpting, painting my environment then adding my assets. lastly, I adjusted the lighting so it would look cinematic. What stood out to me was the sheer scale of the Unreal Engine user interface. At first glance, the countless panels, details sidebars, and viewport settings felt quite overwhelming. However, as I spent more time navigating it, I learned how organized and customizable the workspace actually is, which made managing my project details much more efficient. I learned how to use Unreal Engine, not in an advance way but to an extend where I can at least create an environment. I would try to set aside more time for it since it is very time consuming. I would also add more shrine buildings since I only managed to add two during this project.
