As part of my CAYA Advocacy Fellowship, I undertook a capstone project under the UNDP Movers Programme, focusing on the theme of Youth Political Participation. The objective was clear create a space for young people to explore, discuss, and reflect on their role in shaping political discourse and decision-making.
I conducted my in-person workshop in Pondicherry, engaging 30 enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds. Right from the start, the energy in the room was contagious. The youth showed remarkable interest, offering active and positive responses to the topics discussed. It was heartening to witness their willingness to share personal insights, ask critical questions, and challenge conventional perspectives.
To make the workshop more engaging, I designed it with a gamified approach. This not only made the learning process enjoyable but also encouraged participants to think creatively and collaborate more effectively. The breakout sessions were particularly interesting participants brainstormed in smaller groups, exchanged views on political participation, and came up with innovative ideas to strengthen youth engagement in governance.
The workshop concluded with a sense of optimism and purpose. Many participants expressed a renewed commitment to being more politically aware and active in their communities.
Key Takeaways:
This workshop was more than just a capstone requirement it was a reminder that when youth voices are heard, they can inspire transformative change.
