Earlier this year, I went on a volunteering trip to Vietnam, specifically to a small village in Bến Tre province. It was my first time traveling to a place so deeply connected to tradition and community, and I quickly found myself immersed in a meaningful experience. My main focus was working with the local people to support their daily needs and improve the environment around them.
Most of my days were spent at a local primary school, where I got to know the children—playing games with them, helping with basic lessons, and simply being someone they could laugh and connect with. One of our important tasks was helping to repair the fence around the school’s old swimming pool, which had become unsafe over time. It felt good knowing that our efforts made the space safer for the kids.
Beyond the school, I also took part in other community projects. I helped with small-scale construction work and assisted in installing new street lights along the village roads—simple additions that made a real difference, especially at night when visibility was low. These tasks, although physically demanding, gave me a sense of purpose and teamwork with the other volunteers.
One of the most memorable parts of the trip was the hospitality of the local families. I was welcomed into their homes and shared meals that were not only delicious but also filled with warmth and kindness. Sitting around a table with people I had just met, yet feeling completely at home, was something I’ll never forget.
This experience in Bến Tre reminded me how impactful small actions can be when done with heart. Whether it was helping fix a fence, playing with children, or simply sharing a meal with a local family, every moment contributed to something meaningful. It taught me the value of community, resilience, and human connection—and it’s a journey I’ll always carry with me.
