RVI Ambassadors, back in June ✉️

First Steps

Back in June, I joined the ambassadorial group was truly an absolute honor for me. It is a privilege to continue following the team on this journey and to see where it would take me. Having been a part of previous River Valley Irregulars (RVI) programs, I saw this opportunity as a milestone in all the progress I have made and I was genuinely looking forward to making new friends and seeking new opportunities. With this, I would like to share what I went through.

Returning as an alma mater

My first facilitation project was held at my alma mater, ITE College Central. As a returning student myself, I admit I felt a little nervous. I thought to myself whether the students have expectations of me. However, I reminded myself that the important thing was that we were there as facilitators to help them out

Facilitation, to me.

I initially came with the intention to help the students by sharing about my career path. But as the session went on, I realized the facilitation session was about making connections, building friendships, and getting to know them as people. To me, that is the true essence of what facilitation should be. It's like, having a conversation with people. I felt a great sense of achievement when I spoke to people whom I did not know, and yet managed to form such a strong connection with them.

Appreciation and Thanks

I was happy to have Joshua, my fellow ambassador. Through this experience, I got to know him better and realized that we had different strengths and experiences that complemented each other well, which was especially suited for the students we met. Joshua and I carried out the workshop alongside Daryl and Alicia, our mentor facilitators. It was an absolute pleasure working with them, and I am deeply appreciative of the effort they put into curating everything for us. Without their guidance, none of this would have been possible.

In retrospect,

This first experience taught me a lot. One thing that I would ask myself after this experience is how can I keep building on these connections, and how can I continue growing alongside the people I meet? I cannot wait to participate in more sessions, and I am deeply grateful to RVI for giving me this opportunity.💖
