Empowering Vietnamese to Enjoy Taking Responsibility for a Better World

Nowadays, we have the undeniable urge for youngsters to take action for a better world to live in. However, we should question the way we facilitate, and whether we make them enjoy this responsibility or feel pressured or burdened by it. When I worked as Regional Manager at AIESEC, I kept wondering and made a conference out of this matter to provide youth a platform where we create opportunities for youth to make a tangible impact on both themselves and the world.

During my time, I facilitated discussions and reflections with university students to change their mindset. I wanted to see they contribute happily rather than feeling pressured and forced to do it unconsciously. Less but more, the idea is simple but powerful "I find it enjoyable to improve the world".

The process are highly collaborative with the mixture of workshop, games, keynote, sessions, reflective discussion, individual working time. From building connections and hosting activities, we emphasize on the role of working together as a team and how it relates to personal story to enjoy working on the Global issues more.

The result is amazing, out of 320 attendees, 311 people rated 9.2 when being asked whether they feel enjoy from now on when taking actions, indicating that they feel more empowered and believe that they can make a small impact on their society.

This result reinforces my belief that when someone do something just because they enjoy it, they will keep this habit sustainably, as a result, make a greater and bigger impact. I realized that in order to take action, for younger generations like us, we need to make it fun, easy and enjoyable so that they make impact while having fun, feeling excited and connected with others.

This experience was meaningful not only to me but also to the students involved. While learning things with each other, they might be the next generation to apply the same mindset on taking actions for the world, starting with the principle of "fun" not "obligation".

The Future: Action Beyond Borders

I firmly believe that young people grow the most when they jump into action and make something with their own hands. As a result, impact comes naturally as a flow without any much effort, for themselves, and the world.
