Interns Mid-Summer Presentation!

Last week’s Mid-Summer Presentation session was thoroughly enjoyable! I got to hear about the experiences of other Potato Interns and network with industry professionals.

It’s here where I got to really connect with the diverse community of interns, starting with my presentation mates. I had the honour of collaborating with 2 really awesome interns, Frankie from Tuber and Nadrah from Patatas, for our shared presentation slides. Although the 3 of us had a similar intern role, all of us had our own unique experiences and takeaways. I also got to learn more about them outside of their work (which in my opinion is far more interesting)! I had an absolute blast checking out Nadrah’s huge digital art/games portfolio and catching up with Frankie who turned out to be my senior in secondary school AND poly.

Watching the other interns present their work was also very insightful. I’ve always been curious about the lives of those who work in a different industry from me. From aquaculture impact investing to coding and bug fixing to editing published works, this session gave a deep dive into so many interesting job roles that I never would have known about otherwise. The intern sharing and the occasional advice from experienced professionals gave new perspectives for me to reflect on.

The biggest takeaway from this session for me comes from our very wise founder, Hans. He taught us that our possibilities are endless as long as we know how to see the opportunities in the world around us. We shouldn’t confine ourselves to the idea that we are destined for one job or skill for the rest of our lives. He motivates us to continuously upskill ourselves by committing at least 20 minutes daily to learning a new skill. I was moved by his inspiring words because it taught me to find fulfilment in the pursuit of knowledge. The thought of learning something new, trying and failing but trying again and eventually mastering something actually sounds kinda fun - and this is coming from someone who isn’t used to leaving the comfort zone, which leads me to my next point on growth!

I find that I’m slowly coming out of my shell and have started to embrace trying new things. I’m no longer as afraid of making mistakes. I’ve been trying to adopt a similar mentality that Hans highlighted and it has really helped me be more confident in my skills. I’m very grateful to everyone who attended the Mid Summer Presentation for a very fun and insightful session :DD!!
