I ADORE ART SO MUCH!!!! There's no way to make this not sound cheesy (I really tried) but art is such a huge part of who I am smiley face

To give a brief breakdown of my history with art - I enjoyed performing arts since I was a child (I love acting, dancing and singing), picked up traditional and digital art in my early teens and then eventually photography and filmography in poly. I also kinda got into cosplay which is basically makeup and fashion on hard mode.

As different as these art forms may be from each other, they allowed me to explore how to be myself. I could translate my raw human emotions into whatever medium I desired, perhaps in the form of a song, a photo or even a simple doodle. Who I am could be as complex as a 10 minute short film, or as straightforward as dressing up as my favourite character to prove just how insane I am about them. It’s completely up to me how I want to convey my feelings to the world. I might even move someone else to feel those same intense feelings with my art, which is indescribably fulfilling.

Another beautiful thing I’ve learnt about art is that there really are no rules. To some extent, you don’t even have to be good at art to make art. Nobody’s expecting you to make the next groundbreaking masterpiece, the core of art is to explore and, quite simply, have fun. It’s about enjoying the process of experimentation, embracing the unknown and accepting the mistakes you’ll make along the way.

People often say they can’t do art because they don’t have the mind for it, but in actuality THEY DO! EVERYONE DOES! AND ALMOST EVERYTHING WE DO IS ART! The clothes you wear? ART. How you choose to do your hair today? ART. Organising and tidying your room? YES I SEE THAT AS ART. Everyday, in some capacity, you play with patterns and designs, trying out what feels right for you and what doesn’t AKA art!!! Once we start seeing everything we do as art, we become more in tune with our surroundings, our experiences and our feelings. We won’t feel as scared of trying new things because we know that it’s all part of the creative process.

As creatives it’s easy to lose sight of why we choose to make art, especially in today’s money-centric society. We must routinely pull ourselves out of the mentality of making art to survive, but to find ourselves and to give deeper meaning to our lives. I wouldn’t be the curious, outgoing and empathetic person I am today if it weren’t for the guidance of art.
