Month 1 of my 6 month internship with RVI is done!!! It feels like barely any time has passed but I’ve grown so much as an intern and as a creative in just my first month working here.

As the Video Content Creator intern, my main tasks consist of ideating, storyboarding, filming and editing videos for the brand's Instagram and TikTok. I also dabble in helping out with admin stuff whenever I can.

I thoroughly enjoy the process of coming up with content. Having the freedom to explore my own style of video editing has both been exciting and challenging. I have never been given the full executive power for the creative direction of every video; there's no rulebook with a set list of instructions for me to follow. It's up to me to decide how everything looks and that is a little bit intimidating,,,

The challenge also comes from breaking away from what I’m used to and pushing my creativity in a new direction. For context, I’ve interned at another company before this and have gotten used to the visual style of their content. They had a very tight schedule and videos were pushed out every few days, meaning I had to quickly learn how to replicate their style or else I’ll fall behind. Now, as the head of content creation, it’s up to me to give RVI’s online presence a unique and authentic style.

There’s a fine line between utilising my prior experiences and plagiarising the style of my previous internship. It’s a difficult line to walk on and I’m still trying to find that sweet spot. But with the support and push from my colleagues to keep trying, I’m not afraid to step out of my comfort zone.

Recently, I went outside of my usual intern duties and offered to help out more for marketing. I wanted to further improve on RVI’s social media presence, so I organised my own comparison analysis presentation of other youth centric companies for our marketing team. Based on my own observations and case studies of other companies, I hope to contribute something to our RVI’s marketing that can outlast my internship.

Here at RVI I’m reminded that I shouldn’t confine myself to the “I’m just an intern” mentality. My team is here to help me as much as I’m here to help them. They want to help me grow as a young creative and encourage me to push my limits. I feel seen and taken care of and I will continue to strive to do my best!

I can’t wait to see where my journey with them takes me!
