Finding Strength in Voices: My Capstone Project on Youth Political Participation

In today’s world, the absence of youth voices in political spaces is not because we are indifferent—it is often because the doors to meaningful participation feel too heavy to push open. For me, the CAYA Advocacy Fellowship 2025 Capstone Project was a chance to turn that silence into a dialogue, and that dialogue into action.

On August 5, 2025, I conducted my Movers Workshop on Youth Political Participation virtually through Google Meet. My aim was not only to share knowledge but to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and remind young people that participation is not a privilege—it is a right.

The session was alive with energy. Screens filled with faces eager to engage, voices asking questions, and ideas bouncing from one participant to another. Together, we explored what political participation truly means, why youth are so often left out of decision-making, and how we can create new spaces for ourselves instead of waiting for an invitation.

The key takeaway for me was clear: youth leadership is not about waiting to be heard, it is about choosing to speak up and to stand together. Even in a virtual setting, the sense of collective empowerment was undeniable.

This fellowship has shown me that when young people come together, what starts as a whisper of change can quickly grow into a chorus strong enough to reshape our societies. I am proud to have taken this small but significant step, and I carry forward the belief that every young person’s voice matters—and that our courage to use it will define the future of democracy.
