Hello from NYC!

Hello! My name is Rachel and I am a freshman at The New School: Parsons School of Design.

I'll be sharing more on my projects & progress over at my first year at Parsons, and this is like a lil blog that I'll plan to upkeep!

Shoutout to Shelia from RVI for encouraging me to start writing and documenting my thoughts and ideas out. I have always been journalling, but I have always kept my thoughts and reflections private to myself, but figured that there are perhaps many other young creatives like me who has always dreamed to go to New York City from Singapore. I will be sharing my portfolio that I submitted for Parsons as well, over the next few posts, just to give you guys an idea of what the professors have seen and ultimately I think it was what got me in.

For some background context and to reveal some lore, I was a former Normal Academic student from Anderson Secondary School, I did my N Levels and transitioned into Nanyang Polytechnic's Poly Foundation Programme, where I later pursued my Diploma in Visual Communication.

My journey with design and inclusivity started when I first met Claudia, the founder of Werable, during a Final Year Project attachment over at Nanyang Polytechnic. Claudia was participating in a national fashion design competition over at Singapore Fashion Council and I mustered my courage to go up to her to speak with her, as I was so intrigued by the work Werable has been doing. I first found Werable in a local magazine, Vogue Singapore and have followed their work really closely. (Quick word of unsolicited advice: Go up to your heroes, or people you look up to, make an introduction, you'll never know where this leads you.)

Anyways, I digress, to be completely honest, for this hello post, I had no idea what imagery I should showcase, but have decided to collate some images in this post from my trip to MOMA, hopefully it may serve some sort of inspiration for the young creatives on this platform. If you ever find yourself in New York, MOMA is definitely a place to be, as you'll find classical art pieces from Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Matisse and so on. My trip to MOMA has left me inspired and yearning to start school. At the time I am publishing this, I will be starting classes next Tuesday, and can't wait to journal and share my thoughts on the classes I will be taking!
