Reflections from the First RVI Session on Portfolio Building

Taking part in something like this was completely new to me. I came into the first session curious, unsure, and honestly a little nervous. But that quickly turned into excitement as I got to connect with youth advocates from around the world who, like me, are figuring out how to turn their experiences into action.

In the breakout rooms, we had deeply personal conversations from the contradictory truths we’re holding to the internalised beliefs that shape (or sometimes limit) how we show up in our communities. These weren’t just abstract discussions. They made me reflect on myself not just as an advocate, but as a person navigating her own becoming.

Beyond that, I got to explore something very practical but powerful: how to build a portfolio of my work and impact. I learned how to define the purpose of a portfolio, identify the audience, map out needs, and outline projects with a clear action plan. What felt abstract at first now feels possible something I can actually build on in the future.

Grateful for this beginning, and looking forward to everything we’ll continue to uncover in each other, and in ourselves.
