My First Steps as a CAYA Youth Advocate

When I applied for the CAYA Fellowship, I was seeking a space to deepen my understanding of policy and politics across Asia. It was a chance to broaden my perspective and grow both intellectually and personally. And after attending the first workshop, I already feel that this journey is going to be transformative.

The session was beautifully designed, it was engaging yet grounding. From the moment it began, I felt welcomed into a community that prioritizes intention, presence, and purpose. It wasn’t just a session; it was an experience.

In the breakout rooms, I got to meet and engage in valuable discourse with youth fellows from across south asia and as we shared the beliefs we were unlearning and the ups and downs of our week, I was struck by the power of collective growth. Each story, no matter how simple, was a bridge to connection. It reminded me that meaningful change starts with understanding each other.

It was also quite interesting learning about how we will be building our portfolios through RVI, considering it not just as a technical task, but as an honest reflection of who we are and the impact we aim to create.

I would like to especially mention one moment that stuck with me, which is the reminder to hydrate during the session. It was such a small yet thoughtful gesture which spoke volumes about the care the team has put into this initiative.

Huge kudos to the entire CAYA team for curating such a thoughtful and powerful start to the fellowship. I am walking away feeling energized, hopeful, and more ready than ever to engage, learn, and contribute meaningfully to the region and beyond.
