Today was an incredibly meaningful and eye-opening day. We started at the Raagam Foundation kitchen, where we prepared nasi tumpang. I was involved in chopping beans, while some of us cooked rice, noodles, and tempeh. Once everything was ready, we carefully packed the food into paper. This hands-on experience made me appreciate the effort that goes into preparing meals for others.
After cooking, we had the privilege of meeting Nick, the founder of the Raagam Foundation. He shared his story about why he started the foundation, and it was truly inspiring and motivating. Hearing about his dedication to helping others reminded me of the impact one person can have on a community.
Next, we visited the Bali Life Foundation, which is located at the largest landfill in Bali. This was a deeply moving experience, as it was my first time witnessing people living and working in such conditions. It was heartbreaking to learn about the harsh realities they face every day, yet it also made me reflect on their resilience and strength. While there, we toured the area and served the food we had prepared to the children. Seeing their smiles was heartwarming, and it reinforced the importance of giving back to those in need. After that, the children performed traditional dances for us, which was a beautiful and cultural experience.
Later in the day, we had some free time to explore ICON Bali and do some shopping. It was a fun and relaxing break after an emotional and insightful morning. For dinner, we ate at Kood Restaurant, where we tried delicious vegan food.
To end the day, we participated in an activity led by Balinese youth, where they taught us about Balinese culture. I found this particularly interesting as I learned many new things about their traditions and way of life.
Overall, today was a blend of emotions—gratitude, reflection, and excitement. It made me appreciate the privileges I have while also deepening my understanding of different cultures and communities. This experience will definitely stay with me for a long time.
