Becoming Politically aware doctors - Movers Workshop on Youth Political Participation

Just concluded my CAYA Advocacy Fellowship capstone project with the privilege of organizing a Movers Workshop on Youth Political Participation for my team members at UMEED!

The workshop explored how political awareness and participation matters for youth! Not just as beneficiaries, but as advocates who can shape policies.

With a crucial segment for medical students and doctors, to highlight that Health is inadvertently political - esp. Public health outcomes are directly shaped by policy. By being politically aware, we can push for equitable and universal health coverage with evidence based policies.

"After all, the medicines we prescribe, the health systems we work in, and the communities we serve are all shaped by political choices."

What makes this journey even more meaningful is that this workshop introduced UMEED, the community service club of BMCRI to Movers community. From here on, UMEED will carry this forward as one of its flagship projects, ensuring that these workshops continue to engage, inspire, and empower medical students in the years ahead.

For me, this project has been a reminder: "Being politically aware is not about partisan politics, but about health advocacy, civic responsibility, and shaping the future healthcare system of India." 🍀
