clay star side quest

how this side quest came about:

• i dm-ed a small business on potential consignment stores that she could sell her items in
• she asked if i wanted to make her items for a small renumeration per clay star
• tada~ a part time job was born, making clay stars in someone's house on a mahjong table

as someone who has always been interested in pottery and ceramics, it was such a perfect opportunity for me to learn a new skill, not only did i not have to pay for a lesson, i have these supplies ready for me and i am getting paid for making these stars for her business!

it was also very interesting to hear the insights of a small business owner in singapore, and how many small costs actually add up. e.g. clay, cost for firing the clay, glazes, craft tools, booth rental fees. like many small businesses who rely on markets and booths for their income, it was uncommon to hear some of their struggles, such as not being accepted to booth at a market, lack of space to house their inventory, cheap rental fees could often lead to very low sales due to low reach of the particular market, and i do hope that this topic could be more loudly discussed in singapore.

this experience also showed me that you really miss out on opportunities you don't take. if i didn't dm her, i wouldn't learn a new skill, make a new friend, earn some pocket money and gain so much insights from an entrepreneur. this is your sign to start a new hobby and take the leap of faith on opportunities!
