3d printing for noobs

am i the only one who just learnt that nlb holds these free workshops for those who want to learn a new practical skill?

you've definitely seen at least one 3d printing business or design on the internet, and everyone always buzzes about how we can combine creativity and practicality to provide solutions via 3d printing.

i've always wanted to learn more about it, but once i think about the software, how much time it takes to print, how accurate the measurements have to be, the costs of filaments and the machine itself, the potential unpredictability of how it'll turn out, i'm immediately turned off from the idea.

these 3d printing workshops held by nlb really breaks everything down easily, teaching us the basics of making a very simple keychain. we learn how to insert texts, maneuver shapes, inserting a hole into the keychain for us to hook carabiners on it. my final product is the black keychain in the photos!

since we had some time, we browsed the library of finished designs, copy, paste the file into the 3d printing software and print! it was quite a wow moment when we realised that the carabiner did not require any special mechanism, just fix and snap it together and it's already functional!

i highly recommend this workshop for any of you who always wanted to try it out but are too afraid, search MakeIT at NLB, they have other workshops like sewing and laser cutting as well.
