AI Fundamentals: Foundations of Understanding AI

‘AI Fundamentals’ is one of the courses that I have taken after my BBus. During my twelve weeks of lessons, I have gained the foundational knowledge of AI and its core technologies. From identifying the different concepts of AI and differentiating human learning from machine learning, I am able to describe the different types of machine learning and explain how neural networks and deep learning function. I have understood the importance of using AI tools ethically and responsibly when generating and refining solutions in our daily lives.

I have chosen to learn AI Fundamentals for a few reasons. My high conformity, high universalism, and high security are demonstrated when I learnt about the different AI application models in solving problems. These can be done by understanding the real-world examples of AI in action through explanations and applying them in meaningful ways. My high self-direction is being demonstrated, as I have done extensive research on how likely AI is to impact my career goals. Being curious about how the different AI technologies are shaping today’s digital world and having a growth mindset are crucial.

AI serves as a structural threat and a strategic opportunity for everyone. Regarding job threats, most of the entry-level jobs will soon be taken over by AI. Since an AI bot can screen 200 contracts within 2 hours, this reduces the need to hire entry-level juniors (Amanda Yeap 2025).

Regarding job opportunities, having AI skills can actually be a blessing in disguise! From data analytics to workflow designs and process improvements. These are some useful, transferable skills which are highly valued by today’s employers!

In a nutshell, understanding AI Fundamentals helps me perceive how computers and devices learn from data, spot trends, and create new content. Having critical thinking skills, being open-minded, adapting to changes, and working on interpersonal skills are very important for all learning individuals.
